Journey of a thousand miles…

1 Mar

If you’re anything like me, you envision those big, wonderful things you want to have or experience in your life and no matter what you do, those things still feel lightyears away. Are you with me?

In your day-to-day life, not much changes.

What’s the mis-match here?

What’s the conflict between where you currently are, and where you want to be?

Well, let’s consider that if we focus on that end result or outcome, we are definitely going to see how far we have to go to get to that place. It can leave us feeling disheartened and frustrated.

We can’t just jump from A to Z. We have to move from A to B to C to D…and so on.

This is about taking the next logical step in your life, that leads you to a better feeling place.

So here’s the magic pill (if such a thing exists)…

By all means have your big dreams, BUT, you are living your life TODAY and this is where you are currently at.

Think about what you do each day and ask yourself:
What can I do to improve my daily life right now?
How can I play a bit more?
How can I have a bit more fun?
What can I release from my life today?
What can I bring into my life?

In most cases we’re not talking ground-breaking changes, but small, effective and real-time changes that make some sort of improvement that makes us feel a bit better. What can you change right now that will improve your life?

Get real about it…maybe it’s time to give up that additional commitment that always feels like a chore to you? Maybe you can find a way to get all your mundane, regular tasks done on a single day, so you get it all done at once, like the grocery shopping and bill paying? Maybe you can declutter that one cupboard or corner of a room today?

Maybe you can meet your friend for a coffee and enjoy their company, laugh a bit and forget about all those “shoulds” that you’re usually focused on?

Perhaps you can sign up for that class that you’ve always wanted to do…no more excuses.

Happy, playful baby steps

This is really about focusing on the single steps we can take each day to release something not-so-great (whether it’s a physical thing, a task, or even a feeling or perspective we have) and to bring something into our lives that makes us feel a bit better.

We get overwhelmed when we focus on the big goal and our feeling of distance between now and then can keep us stuck where we are.

Instead, our intention should be movement, even baby steps, towards our bigger goal. And what is our bigger goal anyway?

It’s about having, doing or being something that makes us feel good!

Focus on that feeling and bring THAT into your daily life and before you know it, that big elusive goal (or something even better!) will be right in front of you!

Creating beautiful spaces rather than decluttering

13 Jan

This is my thing at the moment. I had an AHA moment a couple of weeks ago when thinking (yet again) about how I so desperately need to declutter and clean the home (it doesn’t help that I have 4 kids to mess it up).

I’ve been more conscious of how the energy of what I do and think FEELS to me – whether it’s restrictive in my body or feels expansive and flowing.

In that moment that I thought about my need to declutter (after all, I know it’s restricting me on many levels in my life – perhaps one of the biggest ways I’ve been holding myself back and hiding out!!), I felt how that word was negative for me and I knew I had a choice in how I thought about this issue.

So, I had the inspiration to focus on creating beautiful spaces! What an energy shift!

When I think about creating beautiful spaces in my home, one room at a time, I feel inspired and start to envision how I want that room to be. I allow myself to buy a few nice items to add to the room AFTER it had been cleared out, cleaned, and I invite back into that room, the things that bring me joy. Yes, there’s still decluttering and cleaning involved, but the vision of the end result and the creativity I have in the process is so much more motivating that it’s worth it to me!

I started with the smallest room a few days ago – our ensuite. I threw old all the old lotions and potions, scrubbed everything down and put a bare few things on display, with all the necessary items organised nicely in the drawers and cupboard. That small change was so inspiring to me that I kept the ensuite door open for several days to delight in the lovely spacious, clean and ‘pretty’ space I’d created. I did add a new plant that was a finishing touch and also brought in my favourite thing – nature energy!

Yesterday, the kids and I found some wonderful bargains after I set the intention to create a beautiful loungeroom space. Over $240 worth for under $100 at Target! Woo hoo! I got new lounge covers, candles, another Buddha, a vase and greenery, and more! Here’s some pics…

P.S. Oh, did you notice my Declutter Challenge post a few weeks back? I never got past Day 1. It’s that mindset shift that really needed to take place to find authentic motivation and my goal all along was to have beautiful spaces that allow my energy to flow.

Can you look at your rooms with new visionary eyes and intend to create beautiful spaces too? I’d love to hear how you go!
